This coming week is EOG Testing. Ms. Gutt already sent out information about test preparation. Please do not be late for school on Wednesday, May 31, or Thursday, June 1!
This coming week, in addition to testing, in Literacy students will continue Novel Studies, and will continue studying grammar, using Grammar Island and Practice Island.
In Science, students will prepare for the "Third Grade Science Fair". Please make sure your student has all supplies necessary to conduct their experiments, as well as a poster board or project board. All experiments should be completed by this Friday, June 2. Presentations begin Thursday, June 8, and the fourth grade students will visit our Fair on Friday, June 9.

Weekly Update, May 22 - June 2

As always, I hope you are enjoying the weekend!
This coming week in Literacy students will continue to develop skills in fiction reading comprehension and writing, using Novel Studies. Students will continue to develop grammar skills, using Grammar Island and Practice Island.
In Science, Ms. Moschel's class will work on the Third Grade Science Fair. PLEASE make sure you have signed the Assignment Sheet. Students need to supply ALL their own materials for the experiments, as well as their own poster board or project board. Note the experiments need to be concluded by Friday, June 2. Students may start running trials of their experiments as soon as you sign the Assignment Sheet, I OK the experiment, and they bring their materials to class. ALL experiments MUST be done in class. Please read the Assignment Package for additional information.
Ms. Gutt's class will complete a Science Test covering all of the "Forces & Motion" Unit, on Monday, May 22. There are five sets of Guided Notes, (on my Teacher Page under "Documents"), and three graded worksheets, (not on the Teacher page). We spent several days reviewing for this test in class. After the Science Test Ms. Gutt's students will also be preparing for the Third grade Science Fair.

Weekly Update, May 15 - May 26
Good Morning Parents!
I hope you are having a lovely weekend.
Last week was packed with special events - and they were all terrific! The Book Fair was excellent. Thank you to everyone who gave a book to our class - we received everything on my wish list! Grandparents' Day was wonderful and it was a pleasure to spend some time with the grandparents who were able to attend. Night of the Arts was truly a night to remember. I absolutely LOVED our students in their sunglasses rocking out to Santana!
This coming week, Ms. Gutt's students will complete their studies on Forces & Motion and will review for the Unit Test. That test will be MONDAY, MAY 22, instead of Friday, May 19.
On Friday I sent home your child's Third Quarter Progress Report, and the results from their recent i-Ready Test. Please look for those documents.
This coming week we are celebrating "Kindness" with a different dress-up theme each day. (The schedule was send home with your child last week, and is listed below.) We have school auditions for the Talent Show on Tuesday, May 16. Please make sure your child has everything he/she needs to audition. A keyboard is provided.

Weekly Update: May 8 - May 19

This coming week is our School Book-fair.
On Monday, May 8, teachers will be completing class wishlists.
On Tuesday, May 9, students may complete wishlists or purchase books.
On Wednesday, May 10, and Thursday, May 11, students and parents may purchase books.
Thursday, May 11, is Grandparents' Day! I look forward to spending time with all our students' grandparents.
Thursday, May 11, is also Night of the Arts. The following is a note from Dr. Morris:
3rd Grade Music Classes--Night of the Arts Performance
THURSDAY, MAY 11, 2017
at Christ Lutheran Church
4519 Providence Road (just south of Fairview/Sardis Road)
Art Show and Sale: 5:15-5:45 pm / Music Performances: 6:00-7:30 pm
Parents: Our annual Night of the Arts performance will again be held in the beautiful Worship Center of Christ Lutheran Church. The 3rd grade classes are singing a beautiful lullaby from the Isle of Man
(between the English and Irish coasts) and, on recorders, performing a Latin jazz tune in the style
of Carlos Santana. There are recordings of both on my Teacher Page (that I hope your child has
been listening to).
Dress for the 3rd Graders should be something “dressy” – a dress shirt or polo shirt with
dressy pants (or dress jeans) and girls may wear a dress/skirt if they want. For the recorder piece, I
want students wearing pants with pockets to pull out a pair of sunglasses to put on.
STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BRINGING THEIR OWN RECORDERS!
The Performances will take place beginning at 6:00 pm and should finish around 7:30 pm with the
Art Department presenting its Art Show and Sale from 5:15-5:45 pm in the lobby. Children will sit
together by grade level at the front of the sanctuary and be monitored by classroom teachers and parent volunteers. Children should be in their seats no later than 5:50. Children will not be allowed to join their performance if it is already in progress on stage.
Parents can enjoy the show from the back of the main floor or from the balcony
(where the view is better).
This year’s program will again include a Grand Finale with the 7th & 8th Grade Band
accompanying all the classes and the Scholars Academy Chorus in a medley of songs from “The Sound of Music.” The audience will join the students on the finale, (lyrics provided in the program).
Every grade level K-4 and the middle school chorus and band will be presenting performances
that they have worked on especially for this evening, along with wonderful works of art, to present
a school-wide showcase of the artistic talents that we are so privileged to have here at the
Scholars Academy. Every child deserves to have his/her talents seen and appreciated. Please
make every effort to be present for the Art Preview and the musical program. Ms. Holland, Ms.
Tans, Ms. Atkins and I have been working to present an entertaining evening that will flow
seamlessly from beginning to end.
I’m looking forward to this special occasion for you to see and hear the work your children have
been doing in the music and art classes at Scholars Academy.

PARKING: Christ Lutheran Church has a huge parking area that can be accessed from Providence Road or from Sardis Road (check Google Maps). The entrance to the Worship Center is easily seen from the main parking lot. An overflow lot is close by on the north side of the church.
PERFORMANCE DVD: The church’s professional videographer will be taping the performance and a copy of the DVD may be purchased for $10. Order forms will be available at the entrance to the sanctuary and at the Main Desk at school after the performance.
On Wednesday, May 10, students in Ms. Moschel's class will hold Class Talent Show Auditions. Students should have everything they need to perform their act. (We will provide an electronic keyboard.) We have 8 acts in our classroom, and we can only send 4 acts to the School Auditions on Tuesday, April 16. From those 4, only 1 act per classroom will be chosen for the School Talent Show, on Friday, May 26. Students will vote for the best acts in our classroom. A panel of 8th grade students will decide which one of those acts will be in the Talent Show. Please email me if you have any questions.
Next week we are also teaching! In Literacy students will continue with Novel Studies, Time for Kids magazines, and grammar.
