Weekly Update: August 26 - September 6

Hello Parents!

Last night, (Meet the Teachers Night), was wonderful.  It was so great to see all the excited kids and meet all you supportive parents!  I know we are going to have an exciting and productive school year.

Every week I will post a blog reviewing what we did last week and letting you know what is coming up in the next two weeks.  If you know any parents of our students who are not signed up to receive this blog, please let them know that they should sign up ASAP, or they won't know what's going on.

Parents, if you have not already done so, please turn in the following to me:
Student Information Form
Movie Permission Form
$1.00 for Chinese class.
$12.00 for a class book.

Please make sure your student is registered for a School Library Card, and has a Public Library Card.  You may register for the School Library Card on-line at our school website.

Please make sure your child has a sturdy bag for library books.  We will keep the bag at school.

Please make sure your child has a set of headphones to use in the Computer Lab.  We will keep these at school.

I will send home a copy of our daily schedule on Monday.  It may change, but I hope not.
We do have PE this Monday, so please have your child wear appropriate shoes.

I will be starting individual reading assessments right away, during school hours.  I will give you your child's results and we can discuss them as needed.  The assessment will be repeated at the end of the school year.  I will also be assessing math skills, spelling skills, and writing skills.  Students will complete a pre-test about ancient Egypt and about Insects.

On Thursday, august 29, I will assign our first project which is the Insect Project.  Look for the assignment and the grading rubric in your child's orange "Take-Home" folder.  We will do the research for this project in the Computer Lab.

Friday, August 30, is half-day of school.

Monday, September 2, is the Labor Day Holiday.  There is no school.

By Thursday, September 5, students must let me know which insect they have chosen for the Insect Project.

Tuesday, September 10, is "Curriculum Night".  At that time, I will attempt to answer your questions about everything!

If you have any questions or concerns before then, you may email me at krmoschel@carolina.rr.com, or schedule a conference.  The more information I have about your child, the better I can meet his/her needs.

I think that's all the news for the moment.
Have a great weekend!
