As always, I wish each of you a happy weekend with your families. Last week our students enjoyed another snow day and a shortened Friday. Let's hope that's the last of the cold, dangerous weather for this season!
Please send in a plastic container with a tight fitting lid, for Science. It should be about the size of a coffee can. The container will be returned to you.
This coming week in Literacy students will continue developing skills using "Jacob's Ladder" and "Jr. Great Books". They will continue reading the information text, "Time for Kids", and they will continue to study grammar using the "Grammar Island" books. Ms. Todd will visit our classroom and conduct a lesson about "Friendship".

Weekly Update: February 23 - March 6
Hello Parents,
I enjoyed talking with you for Parent-Teacher Conferences. I'm glad everyone was able to schedule a time to meet.
This is our classes' final week to bring items for the School Snack Cart. Please donate individually wrapped, store-bought, nut-free items. Proceeds go toward the 8th grade class trip to Washington D.C.
It is also the final week of the Pennies for Pasta campaign. Currently, the girls are ahead in our class. Please send coins or bills, if you are able.
We need more regular ruled, lined paper! Please send in a package for our students.
This coming week in Science students will study "States of Matter". They will conduct an experiment to identify a mystery substance, will conduct another experiment using temperature to change the properties of a liquid and a solid, and (if time permits), they will construct three simple magnets. They will write lab reports for the experiments.

Weekly Update: February 16 - February 27
Good Morning Parents,
As always, I hope you are having a nice weekend with your families, and are enjoying Valentine's Day!
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK SO WONDERFUL!! It was great to get all the treats and cards from the students, the massage was extremely relaxing, and the luncheon was a loads of fun and a welcome break from the classroom. Our students also enjoyed a light schedule on Friday, including lunch and a movie in the classroom, tanagrams, and games.
Pasta for Pennies continues. Last week our class collected over $200.00, making us eligible for a drawing for a popcorn or ice-cream party! Congratulations to our students!
February is our month to donate to the school's Snack Cart. Please contribute store-bought, individually wrapped items. The proceeds will be used for the 8th grade trip to Washington, DC. Please remember that we are a nut-free school.
We are studying "Friendship" this month. Students wrote about what friendship means to them, and their writing is posted on our class bulletin board. When a child shows friendship, another child may write about the specific event and turn it in to me. I will give that student a heart, which will be passed on to the student who showed friendship. At the end of the month, hearts will be counted and a "Friendship Winner" will be declared.
This coming, (very short), week in Science students will take the Unit Test about Landforms and Water Features. They will conduct an experiment and identify a mystery substance as part of the unit about States of Matter.

Weekly Update: February 9 - February 20

What a beautiful day! It seems likes spring outside. I hope you have time to enjoy the day with your family. :-)
Last week our students had their bi-weekly visit to our Scholars Library. Parent enjoyed a very fine evening last night at the Scholars Appreciation Dinner. I believe it was one of the nicest events I have attended at our school - very well planned and executed. It was fun to visit with past Directors and talk with parents, some whom I haven't seen in a while.
This coming week in Literacy students will continue to develop analytical skills using the "Jr. Great Books" and "Jacob's Ladder" series. They will read "Time for Kids" magazines and will work on grammar skills. Students will begin a study about "Friendship". Ms. Todd will conduct a few lessons, and I will lead some lessons.
