Another beautiful weekend! I hope you can enjoy it with your families.
Thank you all for making my Birthday a truly lovely day! The cards the students brought were very sweet, and my family will enjoy the gift card to The Cowfish. I can hardly wait to go there! Again, thank you!
It's the end of the Quarter, and students have been busy studying for, and taking, several formal assessments (tests). The testing will continue next week.
In Literacy, students will study writing skills and conventions, using the Daily 6 Trait Writing Program. They will read informational tests, using Time for Kids magazines. They will study Grammar, specifically, parts of speech.

Weekly Update: October 20 - October 31
Hello Parents,
Could we ask for a more beautiful weekend? I hope you have time to enjoy it.
Last week our students visited our Scholars Library. They also enjoyed two short school days, as you are well aware! :-)
This coming week is the final week of the Scholars Annual Giving Campaign. It is vitally important that every family pledge to support our school financially. If you have already pledged - THANK YOU! If not, please consider the kind of school environment your child would have if Scholars Academy were to close, or if our school would be forced to eliminate programs. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.
This coming week in Math Class students will develop skills in multiplication and division. Students will work in small groups, and individually. Please remember that students may take their Math Binders home every evening for your review, as long as they remember to bring them back to school the following day.

In Literacy Class students will study writing and grammar skills. There will be a grammar Quiz on Friday. Students will need to identify the eight parts of speech in sentences. Weekly Update: October 13 - October 24
Good Morning Parents,
This past week our scholars enjoyed a visit to Imaginon Public Library. A few students still have outstanding fines which prevent them from checking out books. Please pay any fines you owe.
This week is our School Book Fair. Students visited the Fair and made their wish lists. Students who brought money, purchased books. I hope you are able to attend the Fall Festival and Book Fair this evening
PLEASE DONATE to our school, for the Fall Giving Campaign. We only need a few more families from our class to donate, and then we will have 100% participation. Students will then be able to play miniature golf with Mr. Yodice on a school day! Please pledge, even if it is for a very small amount. The amount doesn't matter, and can be kept confidential. THANK YOU!
Next week in Math Class students will work on addition & subtraction of multi-digit numbers. We will review graphing, and take a Quiz on graphing on Wednesday, October 15. The quiz will cover displaying data sets on a Tally Chart, Line Plot, and Bar Graph. Students need to be able to find the minimum, maximum, range, mode, and median for data sets. They need to know how to interpret the data on the graphs.

In Literacy Class students will NOT have spelling/vocabulary words, or a Language Test on Friday. Instead we will concentrate on grammar. We will conclude our study of "The Fisherman's Wife, using Jr. Great Books, and turn our attention to writing skills and conventions. (We will return to Jr. Great Books in a few weeks.) Students will read "Time for Kids" magazines. We will begin our study of the Character Trait "Respect". Students must bring in a picture showing "Respect" by Friday, October 17.

Weekly Update: October 6 - October 17
Hello Parents,
It's a lovely, crispy fall day! I wish you a good weekend with your families. :-)
Last week I was fortunate enough to participate in a day-long workshop with Michael Clay Thompson. He is the author of our grammar texts and is an authority on gifted children. He was gracious enough to allow me to drag him to my classroom where he took a few minutes to talk with our students about grammar, and then to sign autographs. The kids were very excited!
On Friday, (yesterday), I placed your child's Progress Report in his/her orange "Take-Home" folder. Please look for it and review it.
Next week is our school Book Fair. On Monday, someone will come to our classroom and discuss the Book Fair with our students. On Wednesday, our class will visit the Fair and students will make a "Wish List". On Thursday and Friday, students who bring money may purchase books. The Fair will be open during the Fall Festival Friday evening.
Next week in Math Class, students will begin studying multiplication. They will work as a whole class, individually, and in small groups.

In Literacy Class, students will use Latin and Greek stems to define words. They will have a Language Test on Friday. Students will read "Time for Kids" magazines. They will begin their study of a new Character Trait. They will study grammar, concentrating on the eight types of words in the English language. Other will begin writing, concentrating on the skill of using precise verbs, and the convention of writing dates correctly in a sentence.
