Good Morning Parents,
I hope you are enjoying this rather wet, chilly, weekend!
Last week our students, and (I hope) parents, enjoyed the Night of the Notables. Our students worked hard to prepare for this and they did a truly great job! Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our students in this endeavor.
This coming week in Math students will continue to work on decimals, geometry, or multiplication, both individually and in small groups.
In Literacy we will NOT have a Language Test. Students will continue to work on the skill of writing using strong verbs and adverbs. They will work on the convention of using "to", "too", and "two" correctly. Students will practice printing and cursive handwriting.
In Science we will study the effects of gravity, the feeling of weightlessness, and the effects of air resistance.
In Social Studies we will study the daily life of ancient Egyptians.
Here are some reminders for the coming weeks:
On Monday, December 16, Reading Records are due.
The second grade classes will take a field trip to Packard Place, to tour the facility and learn more about entrepreneurs. We will leave school at 9:30, travel by bus, and return by 11:15. Chaperones are welcome.
On Thursday, December 18, the second grade classes will visit Imaginon.
On Friday, December 20, our class will travel to Barringer Academic Center. We will have our Winter Party with our second grade pen-pal class, taught by Ms. Metcalf. We will leave school at 1:00, travel by bus, and return by 2:45. Ms. DiBella is in charge of planning the party, so please direct any questions to her. Thank you, Ms. DiBella!!
There is no school from December 30 through January 3, due to Winter Break.
On Monday, January 6, school is back in session.
On Wednesday, January 8, our class will visit our Scholars library.
On Thursday, December 9, spelling word definition are due.

Weekly Update: December 9 - December 20
Good Morning Parents,
I hope you are having a nice, cozy weekend!
Last week our students enjoyed a wonderful ancient Egyptian Bartering Market with Ms. Bernard's class. They learned all about the bartering system and had an experience I'm sure they will not soon forget. Thank you for sending in items to barter!
Next week in Math students will work individually and in small groups on decimals, geometry, and multiplication.
In Literacy we will have a Language Test on Friday. Students will continue to work on the skill of choosing which way to organize their writing, and on the convention of properly using "there", "their", and "they're".
In Science students will examine the effects of gravity and air resistance.
In Social Studies students will complete presentations of their ancient Egypt projects. We will begin our study of ancient Egyptian daily life. We will also begin our study of the character trait of "Friendship". Students should bring in a picture depicting friendship by Friday, December 13.
We will hold a class meeting.

Tuesday, December 10, is Night of the Notables, beginning at 6:30. Students will wear their masks and be ready to talk with you about their ancient Egyptian God/Goddess. Students may also wear costumes. It is always a night of great excitement!
On Thursday, December 12, spelling definitions are due.
On Friday, December 13, the picture depicting friendship is due. I will be in Statesville with the Mr. Yodice and the 7th and 8th grade Mock Trial teams for the competition. Ms. Usha will be our substitute. She will place each student's second quarter Progress Report in their orange "take-Home" folder.

Field Trip

Due to complications,
the field trip to Packard Place,
originally scheduled for December 19,
has been rescheduled for December 16.
You do not have to fill out a new Permission Slip.
Our trip to the Morrison Library remains on the original date.

I hope you had a marvelous Thanksgiving!
Last week our students enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving Feast - PJ Day. MANY THANKS TO ALL PARENTS FOR SENDING IN DELICIOUS FOOD!! The feast exceeded all expectations!
This coming Tuesday our students will set up an ancient Egyptian Bartering Market with Ms. Bernard's class. Please send in a blanket or mat for your child's bartering stand. Your child will need to bring in small items to trade. (No electronics.) Do NOT send in anything you want returned. Items may include food, pencils, stickers, jewelry, trading cards, small stuffed animals, etc.
Next Thursday our students will begin presenting their ancient Egypt projects. All items need to be turned in on Tuesday.
Next week in Math students will work individually and in small groups on geometry, decimals, and multiplication and division.
In Literacy students will have a Language Test on Friday. They will practice the writing skill of choosing how to organize their writing, and the conventions of properly using "er" and "est" when comparing items.
In Science students will study the effects of gravity and the feeling of weightlessness.
In Social Studies students students will study the bartering market system and will hold their own bartering market.
