Hooray! I believe the school web site problem s fixed and I can post our weekly updates again! I hope you are enjoying your weekend.
Last week our students visited Imaginon. Thank you to all parents who made sure fines were paid so their children could check out books.
We need a few supplies for the classroom. Please send Kleenex and Dry-Erase Markers.

I paid for everyone to have access to the IXL Language Arts program. Your child's password and
log-in information is the same as IXL Math. I received notice today that our class has already completed 100 Language Arts problems! PLEASE SEND IN $3.00 TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS SERVICE. THANK YOU!!
Next week in Math students will work individually and in 4 performance-based groups on decimals and fractions.
In Literacy students will work individually and in 4 performance-based groups using the "Jr. Great Books" series and the "Jacob's Ladder" series.
In Science students will work in groups to design, build, and test bridges.
In Social Studies students will study Confucius and some ancient Chinese emperors. We will begin our character education study of "Perseverance". Students will read "Time for Kids". We plan to hold a class meeting.

On Monday, March 31 Reading Records are due.
"Jacob's Ladder", "The Mice in Council", work is due.
On Wednesday, April, 2, the second grade classes will visit the Symphony. Please have your child wear his/her purple shirt for this event. We will leave school at 9:00, travel by bus, and return around 11:45. Students will eat lunch at school.
On Thursday, April 3, the second grade classes will visit the Mint Museum. We will leave school at 11:30, travel by bus, and return around 2:30. We will eat lunch at the museum, so please send a lunch a drink. There is a gift shop so you may send a few dollars with your student if your wish.
Friday, April 4, is a half day for students. Dismissal will be at 11:25. Teachers will remain to write Third Quarter Report Cards.
Saturday, April 5, is a half day of school. This is a make up day for one of the inclement weather days we had. Dismissal will be at 11:15.
Monday, April 7, Reading Records are due.

Weekly Update: March 17 - March 28
Hello Parents,
I hope you have had a lovely weekend!
Last week our students had a fantastic Lego/Building Party and an even more fantastic PI Day! Thank you to everyone who helped out in those events!
Please remember that March is our month to supply the school Snack Cart. Please donate individually wrapped, store bought items. No nuts.
This coming week in Math students will work individually and in small groups on multiplication & division, (Chapter 8), and fractions, (Chapter 7). Students are in 4 performance-based groups.
In Literacy students will work individually and discuss in small groups, using the "Jr. Great Books" series and the "Jacob's Ladder" series. Students are in 4 performance-based groups.
In Science students will identify patterns commonly using construction and they will begin building bridges.
In Social Studies students will design an ancient city, and will complete their block prints. We plan to hold a Class Meeting.

I am implementing a new Discipline Policy. The current policy with negative consequences will remain in effect. In addition, positive consequences will be rewarded after a student has had 5 days without a "check", (three problems in a day). Ask your child about the rewards - the kids seem very excited to earn these rewards!

Weekly Update: March 10 - March 21

Well, now we have completed two out of five make-up days. (We're making progress...) I wish you a fine remainder of the weekend. The weather looks like it will be beautiful!
Last week our students visited our Scholars Library and Imaginon, and they checked out a LOT of books!
This is our month to donate items to the school Snack Cart. Please send individually wrapped, store-bought items. Please remember that we are a nut-free school.
This coming week in Math students will be working individually and in small groups on the following skills: Fractions, (Chapter 8), and Multiplication, (Chapter 7).
In Literacy students will work in small groups and individually using "Jr. Great Books" and Jacob's Ladder".
In Science students will change the strength of a material by changing its shape, and will identify patterns in construction.
In Social Studies students will make block prints and study the education system of ancient China. A picture showing an example of "Good Citizenship" is due by Thursday, March 13.

On Monday, March 10, and Tuesday, March 11, I will be out of the classroom. I am spending some time with my own children, who will home from college for their Spring Break. Ms. Usha will be our substitute.
On Monday, March 10, Reading Records are due.

On Wednesday, March 12, I will be out of the classroom, (again), attending a seminar. Ms. Usha will be our substitute. All Literacy work for "How the Elephant Became" is due.
On Thursday, March 13, the "Good Citizenship" picture is due.
Friday, March 14, is "PI Day". Our class will participate in activities with the upper grades for part of the school day. Please contact Julie DiBella to coordinate bringing a "pie". The "pie" can be any round item of food.

Weekly Update, March 3 - March 15
Good Morning Parents,
I hope you are having a happy weekend!
Last week our students enjoyed a wonderful field trip to Discovery Place. We explored the "101 Inventions that Changed the World" exhibit. We then ate lunch and visited the rest of the museum. Once students returned to school they ranked their own top 10 most important inventions. Thank you to our fearless chaperones!!!
This week is our month to provide items for the SNACK CART. Items must be store bought and individually wrapped. Please remember that we are a nut-free school.
This coming week in Math students will work on the following skills individually and in small groups: fractions, (Chapter 8), multiplication, (Chapter 7), and geometry, (Chapter 6).
In Literacy students are analyzing stories using the "Jr. Great Books" series, and myths and fables, using the "Jacob's Ladder" series. Students are in 4 performance-based groups.
In Social Studies students will be making block prints, (a Chinese invention), and learning about daily life in ancient China.
In Science students have begun their study of structures. They will work in teams to build a straw tower, and explore how changing the shape of a material can alter the material's strength. They will begin their character trait study of "Good Citizenship".
Here are some daily reminders for the coming weeks:
