Last week our students enjoyed a field trip to the Mint Museum. The only negative thing about the trip was that we did not have NEARLY enough time to see everything. The students were very engaged and interested, so I encourage you to visit the museum with your family.
This coming week will be especially exciting. On Monday, the third grade classes will visit Discovery Place. We will leave school at 8:30, travel by bus, and return around 3:00.

Thank you to everyone who agreed to be a chaperone! You will have to drive separately to Discovery Place, since we don't have enough room on the bus for students and chaperones. If you intend to drive your child, PLEASE notify me before Monday morning. I have student lists, instructions, and driving directions for each chaperone, which I will hand out Monday.

Remember to have your child wear their blue shirt for this field trip. Discovery Place will be crowded, and this helps us identify our students. Also, please remember to pack a disposable lunch and drink.
Wednesday, April 1, is the third grade "Matter Science Fair". Students will be formally presenting their experiments during 1st, 4th, and 5th periods. They will be sharing their experiments with the 4th grade students during 3rd and 6th periods. If you wish to see your child present, let me know in advance and I will schedule accordingly.

Weekly Update: - March 23 - April 3
Hello Parents,
I hope you are having a lovely weekend! Please know that if you have sent any emails to me at the school address, I cannot receive them. Please send all emails to my home address: krmoschel@carolina.rr.com Hopefully, the computer issues at school will be resolved soon!
Last week our students took the Terra Nova Tests in Reading, Language, and Math. They seem to have done well, at least with bubbling in their responses and sitting through the testing procedures!
If you have not already done so, PLEASE give Grandparent contact information to the school. There is a form to fill out on "The Eagle's Nest" newsletter.
Our class needs #2 pencils. It seems our students use up a LOT of them. Please send in a pack if you are able. Thank you!
This coming week in Literacy students will develop skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary, making inferences, supporting inferences, and writing, using the "Jr. Great Books" and "Jacob's Ladder" series. They will develop grammar skills using the "Grammar Island" series. They will practice reading informational texts and understanding graphs and charts using "Time for Kids" magazines.

Presentations, (The Science Fair), will take place on April 1. Exact times are listed below, under the "Daily Messages" section. Parents are welcome to attend. The Assignment Sheet, Grading Rubric for the Lab Report, Grading Rubric for the Presentation, and Safety Rules were all explained and handed out to students last Monday. Please review these documents so you know what your child will be doing. I will OK each experiment before students actually begin to gather materials.

If you would like to watch your child's presentation, let me know in advance and I will try to schedule him/her for a time you can attend.
On Thursday, April 2, third grade students will visit the public library, Imaginon.
Friday, April 3, is a Teacher Work Day. There is no school for students. Teachers will be preparing third quarter Report Cards.
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10, there is no school. It is our Spring Break! Enjoy!

Weekly Update: March 16 - March 27
Hello Parents,
I hope you are able to stay out of the cold drizzle and enjoy the weekend somewhere warm with your loved ones. My sister is currently moving out of our home, (she's been living with us just over a year), and into a condo that she bought. Not good moving weather!
Last week our students visited the public library, Imaginon, and like always, they significantly depleted it's book supply! :-) Ms. Todd taught another thought-provoking lesson about Friendship.
Ms. Harrison just let me know that students may participate in a Tee-Shirt Design Contest for Future Problem Solvers. There is not much, time she just found out that our students could participate.

Weekly Update: March 9 - March 20

I again wish you a lovely weekend with your families!
Last week our students enjoyed a visit to our Scholars Library, they made ice cream as a demonstration of how changes in temperature effect states of matter, and they participated in a lesson by Ms. Todd about "Friendship".
This coming week in Literacy, students will develop skills using the "Jr. Great Books" and "Jacob's Ladder" series. They will study grammar using the "Grammar Island" series, and will read informational texts using "Time for Kids" magazines. We will continue our character study of friendship, and Ms. Todd will teach another lesson about "Friendship".
